Your employees are the backbone of your success, so what better way to express your gratitude than by throwing a staff party? Staff events are a way to celebrate victories, show your employees a good time, and provide an opportunity for some all-important team-building. In other words: there’s a host of benefits, and all it takes is a bit of time, effort, and money.

Of course, you can’t just expect that your staff party will be a hit. You need to make it a reality. In this post, we’ll run through a few handy tips that’ll ensure your staff party is good for both your employees and your business. Let’s take a look.

Involve Your Team

You’re hosting the party for your employees, and it’ll be much easier to ensure they have a good time if they’ve been involved in the planning process. Depending on the size of your company, the process of involving your team could involve letting them take a hands-on approach to the planning (in the case of small companies) or sending out a survey to get minor input. Involving your team in the planning helps to improve employee buy-in and ensures that they’ll actually enjoy the party.

Bring the Fun

Most parties are naturally fun, especially if you have a team of close employees who are always down to have a good time. Still, it can also be useful to add some fun touches to make sure that it’s a fun and memorable event. Could you rent karaoke equipment and host a singing competition? Or what about handing out some fun employee awards? It’s easy enough to order some custom medals from The Medal Factory and create some fun award categories — for example, who’s the most likely to wear PJs to a Zoom meeting? Who can’t function until they’ve had a coffee? It’s an easy and convenient way to inject some lighthearted fun into proceedings, and to give employees something to take home to remember the occasion.

Choose a Venue/Theme

The best employee parties are ones that take place in standalone venues, rather than in the office/workspace. When you’re planning your event, be sure to visit a few different venues to find one that aligns with what you’re looking for. This could be a swanky downtown bar, hotel event space, or a cozy retreat area that’s out in nature. The purpose and theme of the party will influence the venue decision, so have those clearly defined before beginning your search. Are you celebrating a milestone? Having a fun “Murder Mystery” or “Roaring 20’s” theme? View each venue through the lens of how it’ll contribute to the purpose/theme.

Limit the Stress

Finally, take extra steps to limit anything that could cause stress. For example, it’s best to hold staff events during a quiet time of year (no one can let their hair down during a busy sales period!) and on the right day. You’ll save more money by hosting the event on a Tuesday, but it’s much fairer to employees if it’s held on a Friday.
