Women have been the target audience of the beauty industry for generations, yet we’re slowly seeing a shift in perspectives. Male beauty treatments are on the rise as more men seek to look after their appearance. Some may nod to reality TV shows like Love Island as the reason for this emerging trend, while others point out the decreasing stigma surrounding male beauty.

Whatever the reasoning, this trend looks set to stay for a long time. It’s also very interesting when you look at some of the rising men’s beauty treatments to see if they differ from the popular “female” options or not.

#1 Hair Transplants

By far and away the most popular male beauty treatment right now, hair transplants offer a solution to the almost unavoidable problem that is male-pattern baldness. Most men will start going bald at some point - and a large chunk do so in their twenties. It’s not spoken about a lot, but going bald is arguably the biggest self-confidence knock a man can get. Everyone’s quick to make bald jokes or point out a receding hairline, which is wild when you imagine doing a similar thing about any other aspect of someone’s appearance.

As a result, more and more men are turning to hair transplant services, and we’re seeing a growing number of specialist clinics in the UK. It’s a treatment that will only ever see an increase in interest, especially as it gets more and more effective.

#2 Hair Removal Services

The irony of hair transplants taking the number one spot is that hair removal services come in a solid second place. Men are in a constant battle of wanting a lot of hair on their head, but not wanting too much hair everywhere else.

It’s more than a vanity thing; while being hairless can accentuate muscles and help you feel good, having too much hair often becomes irritating or causes you to sweat too much. So, men look for hair removal services such as laser therapy, waxing and so on. This is becoming just as popular as it is for women, particularly before the summer holiday season.

#3 Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Skin rejuvenation is an emerging trend in male beauty as more men realise the importance of keeping their skin in excellent condition. You’ll still come across handfuls of men who don’t moisturise or wear SPF daily, and then they wonder why their skin ages quicker than women’s!

The message is slowly starting to get through to them that looking after your skin helps you look younger for longer. While men still seem to shy away from injectable beauty treatments, they are keen on trending treatments from beauty businesses, like microneedling and chemical peels. Both offer ways to rejuvenate the skin and make it look clearer and younger. There’s also a particular emphasis on skin rejuvenation around the eyes to help get rid of dark circles.

There’s still a very long way to go before male beauty treatments are as popular as female ones, but it’s nice to see things take an upward trend. Men should stop being ashamed about wanting to look good and embrace the fact that beauty treatments can be great for their confidence!
