The Venomous Abyss arrived with patch 12.1.0, Curse of Ula'tek, on August 11, 2026, and became the main raid of World of Warcraft: Midnight's second season. It sits on the Coiled Isle, it has eight bosses, and it ends with the creature the whole raid is built around: Ula'tek. This guide covers what's inside and how the raid is put together, for anyone planning a first run.

The story behind it

The trouble starts with a voice. Guided by the whispers of Malacrass, Zul'jan frees the forgotten broods of Ula'tek from their prison, and the creature's power begins to grow. His sister, Zul'jarra, is the one who asks for help. She sends the champions of Azeroth down into the Vaults of Atal'Utek to stop her brother.

Malacrass is an old name for long-time players. His presence explains some of the loot, too: two of the raid's special items, Hex Lord's Visage and Hex Lord's Gaze, carry his title.

Eight bosses in four wings

Normal, Heroic and Mythic all went live in the week that began on August 18. Story Mode followed a week later, and Raid Finder released the raid in four wings of two bosses each, the last of them in the week starting September 8. The wing names give a good sense of the trip down:

On Normal, Heroic and Mythic the raid is one continuous instance, and its last two fights, The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek, are where it keeps its rarest rewards.

What it drops

The core of the loot is Tier 36, the season's armor set, whose tokens come from six of the eight encounters, so the set fills in piece by piece over weekly clears.

The rarest items come from the end of the raid. The Coiled Altar can drop two very rare weapons, Maze-roa, Warlord's Fury and Aman'muso, Warlord's Vengeance. Ula'tek has two of its own, Zatha'tek, Breath of Corruption and Jan'thrazet, the Soul Fang.

Several bosses also carry a special item each. Nek'zali has the Soulcoil Remnant, Vashnik the Venomous Pyre, Sszorak the Vessel of the Howling Ossuary and The Twin Fangs the Venom-Fanged Font, while the Hex Lord pieces come from The Coiled Altar.

Players who care about their house have one more reason to finish the raid. Ula'tek drops a trophy for player housing in three finishes that depend on difficulty: Gleaming from Raid Finder and Normal, Aureate from Heroic and Argent from Mythic. It's a simple way to show visitors how far you got.

Choosing a difficulty

The Venomous Abyss follows Midnight's usual ladder, starting with a Story Mode that lets anyone see the plot without the pressure of a real raid. Raid Finder suits players who want a matchmade group, and its entry bar is item level 273. Normal and Heroic suit organized groups of almost any size, while Mythic asks for exactly twenty players.

The difficulty also decides which achievement you can claim. Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek asks for a Heroic or Mythic kill while this is still the current raid tier, and Cutting Edge: Ula'tek asks for a Mythic one, which also brings the title Venom's End. The Hall of Fame had room for only 200 guilds with an early Mythic kill. Raider.IO already counted 228 guilds past Ula'tek on Mythic by mid-October, so every one of those spots is taken.

Getting through it

Players reach Ula'tek with a guild or through pickup groups in the Group Finder. Not everyone has those evenings to spare, though. For them, WoW Venomous Abyss boosting is another route: an experienced team takes your character through the raid. The offers come in several shapes, from a full clear on one difficulty to single bosses or a run aimed at the Ahead of the Curve kill.

If you look at those offers, compare them the way you would any service. Find out which difficulty and which bosses are included, whether you play your own character during the run, and what the seller does when the loot you wanted doesn't drop. A quick look at the seller's complaints on a review site it doesn't control tells you more than the rating on its own page.

Before your first pull

Start with Raid Finder or Normal to learn the fights while the stakes are low, then move up once your group knows the mechanics of The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek. Bring the season's consumables and plan around the weekly reset. The trophy, the tier set and the achievements all come from the same eight bosses, so every clear moves several goals forward at once.
